Joining the Library

If you are not already signed up to your local library, Homerton Library in Homerton High Street, we would encourage parents/carers to do so.

Joining the library is very simple and allows you to borrow lots of great books for your children FREE OF CHARGE. The library has a large selection of books, from picture books for very young children through to exciting chapter books for older readers and staff there will be happy to help you and your child find suitable books for their age and level.

How to join

All you need to do is go along to the library with one document proving your name and address that is dated within the last 3 months. This could be a utility bill, tenancy agreement, mobile phone bill or bank/building society statement. Tell the library staff that you would like your child to join the Children’s Library. You will be asked to fill in a short Registration Form, show your proof of address and you will then be issued with a membership card for your child. The whole process will take about 5 minutes. You can also apply online. Once you have applied, visit any of Hackney's Library branches with your confirmation number and proof of your name and address to activate your membership.

You will be allowed to borrow up to 12 books for a maximum of 3 weeks. The library also has CDs and DVD’s which you can borrow (CD’s can be borrowed for 3 weeks, DVD’s for 1 week). You will need to return the items you borrow by their due date, and you will then be able to borrow further items.

Using the library is a really great think to do with your child, especially on these dark winter evenings, and will give you an endless supply of free books for your child to enjoy.

Homerton Library is open Mon, Tues, & Thurs 10am – 6pm, Wed  1pm - 6pm, Fri 10am –6 pm and Saturday 10am – 5pm.
