Kingsmead is the lead Primary School within the Hackney Teaching Schools' Alliance (www.hackneytsa.org.uk), providing high quality training for the teachers of the future. We offer outstanding Initial Teacher Training (ITT) to graduates and career changers joining the teaching profession. As a trainee teacher with us, you will have access to invaluable training, school and classroom experience to equip you with the knowledge, skills and expertise that you will need to become an excellent teacher.
Kingsmead has worked for several years in a successful partnership with the University of Cumbria http://www.cumbria.ac.uk The UoC is one of the largest providers of teacher training in Europe. We offer bespoke and comprehensive teacher training courses in both General Primary and Early Years. Trainees are based across several Hackney Primary schools within our Teaching Schools’ Alliance. The school based approach provides a highly effective way to experience all aspects of school life, while learning to teach under the support of excellent classroom practitioners. In addition, trainees receive excellent pedagogical input, delivered by specialist leaders of education (SLEs). Support throughout the course is provided by experienced mentors and personal tutors, offering weekly tutorials. The year is structured into school based learning and two assessed placements within a base school, with an additional contrasting assessed placement in another of our thriving alliance schools. Trainees also experience a placement in a specialist secondary school, as well as a foundation stage placement, giving them a wide range of opportunities to work with children from 3 years to 15 years.
Qualifications gained on successful completion of the course are QTS, PCGE and 60 masters credits.
